SATURDAY MORNING SERIAL: 'SHIRT TA-TA-TA-ALES'!

This week's Saturday Morning Serial selection takes us back to the early 1980s on the NBC network. Shirt Tales was a cartoon that was originally created as a line of greeting cards. The popularity of the animal characters wearing t-shirts with different greetings piqued network interest (and of course the $$$ it could generate).

Shirt Tales followed the adventures of five animals who worked and lived in a tree in Oak Tree Park. Rick Raccoon, Pammy Panda, Tyg Tiger, Bogey Orangutan, and Digger Mole (Kip Kangaroo was added to the cast in the second season) always found themselves in some kind of kooky situation. They would solve crimes or sneak out of the park, and try to avoid alerting the park ranger, Mr. Dinkle, who was always two steps behind the fuzzy fivesome. The five animals wore shirts that would occasionally flash a message that reflected their thoughts. Thus the name Shirt Tales.

The cartoon was on network television until the mid-80s, on both NBC and CBS, and reruns have spotted most recently on Boomerang. Each episode consists of two 11-minute segments, and we have provided you with an episode that features the joys and pains of arcade video games, and discovering a spaceship.

Enjoy!
