Fans of Breaking Bad may be a little sentimental with the impending end of the series but AMC is moving full-speed ahead with a spin-off.
The working title of the Breaking Bad spin-off is Better Call Saul, which fans will recognize from the billboard and poster references throughout the series. While the new series will be based on Saul Goodman, the studio and network have confirmed that the spin-off will be a prequel and focus on the evolution of Saul before he ever became Walter White's lawyer on Breaking Bad. Remember that Saul's real surname is McGill and that Goodman is a professional alias he adopted to better attract clients. Plus it still remains to be seen how Saul will end up when the flagship series signs off. AMC is definitely not spoiling anything on that front.
Bob Odenkirk is set to reprise his role of the criminal lawyer, and writer, producer, and creator of the Saul Goodman character Peter Gould is expected to be the showrunner.
AMC's announcement comes at a time where the network is beginning to lose its powerhouse dramas. Breaking Bad is slated to end its run within the next month and Mad Men will air its final season in 2014. Earlier today the network cancelled (again) The Killing.
