We're always on the lookout for Made-for-TV movies that jump out at us and this piece of news not only jumped out but also slapped us silly with anticipation. Fans of V.C. Andrews series of books made popular in the late '70s and '80s will likely remember reading Flowers in the Attic. In case you forgot we'll give you a brief rundown of the novel. The young mom is widowed with four kids and moves into her parents' house after her father's death. Well the mom's mom (a.k.a. Grandma) freaks out about a secret and locks the four children in the attic. While imprisoned in the attic the oldest boy and the girl develop a "special" relationship. Yeah it was some pretty racy stuff for the era.
The Lifetime network is spearheading the production and has already lined up Heather Graham and Ellen Burstyn to portray mother and grandmother, Corinne and Olivia. No information was provided on when the movie is scheduled to premiere.
Fans might remember that a movie based on the V.C. Andrews novel was released in 1987, which was received with mixed reviews. We have included that movie's original trailer to help viewers with the gist of the story.

Never read the book but watched the movie and yea it was some crazy stuff going on. I think Ellen Burstyn will be great for the grandma role. Interested in seeing what comes out of this version. Thanks for the info.
ReplyDeleteI think remaking the movie in the present day will make for a much better version than the motion picture. Different times today, compared to the 1980s, will help the made-for-TV movie be more expressive on the taboo topics. Cable networks have become much less restraint in that area so I think that will help the movie stay true to the novel.
