WINTER 2014: 'HIGHWAY TO HEAVEN' REBOOT IS IN THE WORKS; MARK WAHLBERG TO EXEC PRODUCE

The 1980s classic featuring an angel and a human companion doing good deeds is getting a reboot.

Highway to Heaven premiered on NBC in 1984 and featured former Little House on the Prairie co-stars Michael Landon and Victor French. Landon portrayed Jonathan Smith, an angel sent to Earth on probation to do good deeds, at least enough to earn him his wings and entry into heaven. French played Mark Gordon, the human and live companion who helped Jonathan complete the assignments sent down from God. The assignments usually consisted of helping troubled souls.

The new project is being headed by A&E Studios and Halfire-Core Entertainment, and film star Mark Wahlberg (Yes, Marky Mark) is attached as an executive producer. Former Hell on Wheels showrunner John Wirth is writing the script.

FALL 2013: THE CW TO REBOOT '80s "TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE"

Remaking old shows has become the latest trend for networks. Following previous news of Remington Steele, Murder, She Wrote, and Charmed reboots, it was revealed yesterday that The CW is interested in bringing back Tales from the Darkside.

Tales from the Darkside was a syndicated horror anthology series from George A. Romero. The series ran for four seasons during the mid-1980s and frequented the genres of horror, science fiction, and fantasy. Following similar formats seen on The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits, each episode of Darkside was an individual short-story that typically ended with a plot twist.

The CW is interested in rebooting Tales from the Darkside to boost its current horror/fantasy line-up that has generated viewers and ratings over the years. Joe Hill (Stephen King's son) has been tapped to pen the project.

FALL 2013: NBC REBOOTING 'REMINGTON STEELE'?

Is Remington Steele making a comeback to television?

Maybe.

Now that almost everything 1980s is returning, NBC is thinking about reviving the detective agency that made Pierce Brosnan a star. In 1982, Remington Steele premiered as an hour-long dramedy featuring detective Laura Holt opening a private investigation agency. Fearing potential clients might not hire her because she's a woman, Holt invents the persona of Remington Steele using a former thief and con man (Brosnan) to assume the identity. His real name was never revealed. The romance between Laura and Remington gradually built up over the five seasons and the chemistry between the main characters fueled the success of the show.

Flashforward to 2013, and NBC is planning to reboot Remington Steele in a half-hour comedy. Using the same title, the reboot would focus on Olivia Holt, the daughter of Laura Holt and Remington Steele, reopening her mother's detective agency and finding herself in the same comedic situations found in the original show. No word on if Olivia will have her version of Remington, but we would think so. More importantly, will Stephanie Zimbalist and Pierce Brosnan be game for making a cameo appearance? And what about Doris Roberts as Mildred Krebs, the receptionist from the original show? She would be great for a new comedy. We can only dream...
