WINTER 2014: USA NETWORK ENDS 'PSYCH'; SERIES TO WRAP UP IN MARCH

Well it's the end of the road for one of USA Network's dramas.

The long-running, delightfully entertaining Psych will wrap it up at the end of the current eighth season. The series finale is scheduled to air on Wednesday, March 26 at 9 pm and will be followed by a one-hour live retrospective special, Psych After Show, that will involve the cast and creator of the hit USA Network show. While the future of Psych was debated these past couple of months, USA Network confirmed that this season will be the show's last, but that it doesn't necessarily mark the end of Shawn and Gus (stars James Roday and Dule Hill). Could some form of TV movie(s) be in the future for fans? Only time will tell...

Meanwhile, Roday and Hill took to YouTube today to send a special message to fans.

FALL 2013: NBC CANCELS 'IRONSIDE' AND 'WELCOME TO THE FAMILY'

It's been a rather busy Friday afternoon in TV land as several networks have made some serious decisions regarding their new shows this season.

On the cancellation front, NBC has axed struggling police procedural remake Ironside and comedy Welcome to the Family. Both shows failed to gather an audience despite posting fairly decent premiere ratings. 

Ironside had considerable amounts of promos and hype to boast its premiere but putting popular star Blair Underwood in a wheelchair just didn't help the cause. The drama faced tough competition in its Wednesday night timeslot with the perennial favorite CSI and ABC's country sudser  Nashville. The real nail in the coffin came last week when FX's American Horror Story: Coven premiered to smashing numbers in the 10 pm timeslot and took a nice chunk of audience away from network television. Ironside also faced some creative backlash for not casting a disabled actor in the role of paraplegic Robert Ironside. The negative press helped detract some audiences from even giving the show a chance. Honestly though, the drama's case-of-the-week format was pretty dull and slow that Ironside's wheelchair moved faster than the plot. The final episode airs October 23.

Welcome to the Family was another unfortunate sacrifice that the network had to make due to low numbers. Stuck in the 8:30 pm timeslot, the family comedy based on unplanned teenage pregnancy couldn't hack it against CBS' new comedy The Millers. While the premise isn't necessarily the best, it was something different but a soft cast didn't help the situation. Don't get us wrong, we love Mike O'Malley but he needed a better co-star foil in this production. Additionally, most of NBC's new comedies are struggling, especially much touted, heavily advertised Sean Saves the World and The Michael J. Fox Show. If a decision had to be make to stop the network from losing more blood, it was apparent that the show on the bottom of the totem pole was getting cut.

CBS, on the other hand, is doing a little better with its new comedies. The network has just given full-season orders to freshman comedies Mom, The Crazy Ones, and The Millers. Apparently dysfunctional comedies about recovering alcoholics and divorced parents are drawing the audiences. Each show has received the order for the "back 9" episodes, which would make the full season count to 22 episodes.

FOX has also picked up a full-season order for freshman police comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which has posted solid numbers since its debut. Additionally it will join New Girl for a special comedy hour after Super Bowl XLVIII on February 2, 2014.

FALL 2013: 'GLEE' RE-DOING ENDGAME FOR NEXT YEAR'S FINAL SEASON

Glee, the musical drama following a high school glee club will end in 2015 after its sixth season.

Co-creator Ryan Murphy confirmed the show's ending Wednesday night while attending an event at the Paley Center. The show is currently in its fifth season and taking a breather after recently airing the special tribute episode to fallen castmember Cory Monteith.

The actor's passing has caused a major re-write for the show's endgame season and finale. Murphy shares that the final season was supposed to center heavily on the Rachel/Finn relationship to give the couple a happy ending in the finale. The co-creator does have another idea in mind that will honor the actor and his character's memory during those final moments next year. 

Glee is currently on hiatus during Major League Baseball and will return November 7 on FOX.

FALL 2013: COMING TO TV TONIGHT (9/29)! SO LONG 'BREAKING BAD'...

Well the last Sunday in September has arrived and for many fans, this is THE night for premieres and goodbyes. Breaking Bad rides off into the sunset while Homeland begins another season of thrilling suspense.

New and Returning Premieres

Once Upon a Time starts off its third season right where it left viewers last spring. The core gang is aboard Hook's ship traveling to Neverland. Their mission to rescue a kidnapped Henry is interrupted however by several vicious mermaids (Is one them a red-head that lives under the sea?) and a malicious Peter Pan. This isn't the Neverland that we have always read about. 8 pm on ABC.

The Amazing Race returns for another 'round the world contest. It's 23rd season kicks off in arid Iquique, Chile (Shout out to Chile...woot woot!). 8 pm on CBS.

Long-running animated comedy The Simpsons begins its silver anniversary season (that's 25 y'all) with a Homeland-esque parody when Lisa believes Homer has been turned after returning from a nuclear plant operators convention. SNL vet Kristen Wiig guest voices as a Claire Danes-like character. 8 pm on FOX.

Bob's Burgers premieres its fourth season with a camping trip for Bob and family. Unfortunately for Bob, something he eats doesn't agree with him. Cue hilarity. 8:30 pm on FOX.

The third season of Revenge has been promised to be a return to its original premise. No more Initiative, no more complicated storylines. Right off the bat, Emily is shot. But don't fret, it's a flashforward to build up the mystery of why Ems was shot on a boat. Victoria's long-lost son makes his first appearance and get ready for Conrad to collapse...literally. 9 pm on ABC.

The Good Wife returns for a fifth season with Alicia doing double duty. First she must prevent the execution of a convicted murderer, then she must continue her plan to exit the firm with Cary. We think the latter will be much harder than freeing a murderer. 9 pm on CBS.

Family Guy begins a 12th season with typically Peter Griffin silliness. Peter becomes convinced that a restaurant placemat is actually a treasure map, and creates a scavanger hunt through Quahog. Hilarity ensues. 9 pm on FOX.

The ninth season of American Dad begins in the midst of prom season. Steve and Snot use the CIA's cloning machine to create two dates for the high school dance. More hilarity ensues. 9:30 pm on FOX.

While viewers may be losing Breaking Bad after tonight's series finale, at least they have the return of Showtime's Homeland. The drama begins its third season with recently shaved Brody still at large, Carrie under fire by a Senate committee, Saul planning a pretty bad counterstrike, and Jessica dealing with the fallout. 9 pm on SHO.

New drama Betrayal lands the coveted post-Revenge time slot and based on the premise and pilot episode, it should fit right in. Sara has an affair with an attorney but unfortunately for her the sex isn't just clean cut. She learns that her husband, who is also an attorney, will be facing off against her sidepiece in a big murder case. We're tempted to watch this one just to see the big reveal. 10 pm on ABC.

The Mentalist returns for its sixth season in hot pursuit of Red John as Jane and Lisbon continue to narrow down the list of suspects. 10 pm on CBS.

Series Finales

After five seasons, the world finally says goodbye to Walter White and Breaking Bad. Tonight's final episode will run for 75 minutes followed by an hour-long Talking Bad wrap-up. Execs have been tight-lipped about the finale and all that was given was this phrase..."The story concludes." 9 pm on AMC.

So many shows, so little DVR space! Are you looking forward to a particular show tonight?

FALL 2013 UPDATE: HBO'S 'TRUE BLOOD' CANCELLED

Is True Blood reaching its end?

True Blood wrapped up its sixth season last Sunday night, and while viewership on the HBO vamp fest has steadily decreased in the past couple of years, the drama raked in pretty decent ratings for the finale. Not even a week has passed and discussions of the show's future are set to begin, specifically after the next season.

In the next couple of weeks, showrunner Brian Buckner will find out through discussions with the show's writers if there is material to warrant a continuation past Season 7. These eyebrow raising questions aren't necessarily surprising given the mixed reviews of the last season, declining quality being the biggest concern. Are viewers becoming bored with the supernatural world of Sookie Stackhouse? So far, viewers are split between continuing the show and ending the show on a high note. We'll see what news the next few weeks will bring...Stay Tuned!

UPDATE 9/3/13

Well it's official, HBO has announced today that True Blood's next season will be its last. There has been no set date for the show's last episode but the seventh season isn't set to premiere until Summer 2014. Now that the swan season has been determined, it gives writers plenty of time to plot the end of Sookie Stackhouse.
