TV ON DVD ALERT: 1983's "MOTOWN 25: YESTERDAY, TODAY, FOREVER" SPECIAL TO BE RELEASED THIS FALL

StarVista/Time Life (@TimeLifeUS) is planning another major DVD release for this fall and we're pretty certain that you're not going to pass on this set.

For the first time on DVD, and unseen on air since its original broadcast, Time Life is releasing Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever, the 1983 television special that celebrated Motown's 25th year.

Hosted by comedian Richard Pryor, Motown 25 had many memorable moments including Michael Jackson's first recorded moonwalk during "Billie Jean," the "Battle of the Bands" between The Temptations and The Four Tops, a brief reunion of Diana Ross and the Supremes (the on-stage tension between Ross and Mary Wilson was edited out of the taped airing; not sure if it is included in this Extended Version DVD), Marvin Gaye's performance of "What's Going On," and The Jackson 5 reunion.

Other performers during this special include Smokey Robinson and Linda Ronstadt, Lionel Richie and The Commodores, Stevie Wonder, Mary Wells and Martha Reeves, and the long-awaited reunion of The Miracles.

The Deluxe Collector's 6-DVD set also includes tons of bonus features including original rehearsal footage featuring Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder, over 25 interviews with various performers and production members of the commemoration special, 9 brand new featurettes that Time Life has produced for this set, a copy of the concert program, and a beautiful 48-page booklet consisting of artist information, behind-the-scenes photos, and more.

All of this in a snazzy box!

NEW RELEASE TUESDAY! FULL OF NERDS, COPS, AND ONE CRANKY THELMA HARPER!

It's New Release Tuesday and this week has an interesting mix of classic and current shows that you'll definitely want to pick up!

Comedy Pick-of-the-Week

The Big Bang Theory - The Sixth Season

The sixth season of the nerdy comedy continues following the adventures of Sheldon, Leonard, and Howard, as they progress further in their respective relationships with Amy, Penny, and Bernadette. Raj, on the other hand, is still searching for his soul mate. Still at its peak, The Big Bang Theory continuously brings the laughs and gags to Pasadena's favorite doctors (not the medical kind of course, duh!).

Drama Pick-of-the-Week

Homeland - The Second Season

The second helping of Showtime's successful drama returns bigger and better as life becomes complicated again for the U.S. Congressman Brody and former CIA agent-turned Civilian Carrie. The two find their lives intertwined again and must return to that world of deceit and desire, ultimately leading to an explosive ending. If you haven't latched on to this show then here's your chance to catch up because it is definitely on the Must-Watch list.

Sleeper Pick-of-the Week

Luther - The Third Season

The recently discovered, underrated British psychological crime drama sees its third series (season) released on DVD. DCI John Luther continues hunting killers in the 4-episode season while also dealing with an internal case being built against him, which leads to a surprising climax towards the end.

Retro Pick-of-the-Week

Mama's Family - The First Season and The Second Season

Thelma Harper and her crew from Raytown, USA are back on DVD, and done right this time! Back in 2006, Warner Home Video released the first and second seasons on DVD and received mixed reviews primarily for its use of syndicated, edited cuts. Flashforward 7 years, StarVista/Time-Life have obtained the ownership rights to release the original broadcast masters, which include the episode introductions by Alistair Quince (portrayed by Harvey Korman). The first and second seasons of the show aired on NBC before it was cancelled and revived in syndication. The NBC years featured Rue McClanahan and Betty White, before they exited for The Golden Girls, as well as Carol Burnett in her signature role as Eunice. Classic '80s show fans have been clamoring for the unedited release of Mama's Family and can even order the complete series set exclusively through the StarVista/Time-Life Website. Grab a beer and slice up a piece of marble cake when watching this release.

Kid (or Kid-at-Heart) Pick-of-the-Week

The Wild Thornberrys - The Fourth and Fifth Seasons

The late '90s/early 2000s Nickelodeon toon about a nomadic family of documentary filmmakers reaches its end with these final two seasons. While the toon primarily centered around Eliza, it frequently told the stories of the Thornberrys discovering and interacting with different species of wildlife. The fourth and fifth season DVD sets are available exclusively through Shout! Factory's Shout! Select Library.

Season Rewind Picks-of-the-Week

Fans can revisit and/or catch up on missed episodes of the following shows before the new fall season starts.

Blue Bloods - The Third Season

Castle - The Fifth Season

Chicago Fire - Season One

Supernatural - The Eighth Season

Feel free to share with us below any DVD releases you are looking forward to today. Stay Tuned is pretty excited to get our hands on the Mama's Family set later this week.

Remember to keep it locked to Stay Tuned for future updates on anything and everything television!

SAN DIEGO COMIC CON PREVIEW NIGHT! WHAT'S COMING OUT?

Well folks, tonight is the preview night that kicks of San Diego Comic Con International 2013 and several studios and companies are already filtering information on goodies to be released during the second half of this year.

The awesome people from Shout! Factory have made a huge announcement that would knock the socks off any Power Rangers fan. Scheduled to be released (tentatively) on December 3 of this year, Power Rangers Legacy: The First 20 Years will available and in that neat-o red helmet packaging at the top of the page. As the title indicates, this set will contain all 20 years of the Power Rangers TV series, from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers to Power Rangers Megaforce, on (an astonishing!) 98 discs. Also included will be a 6 DVD set of bonus materials including interviews previously released, brand-new featurettes, and new archived material. You can sign-up for e-mail notifications of when the set will be available for pre-order through Shout! Factory's website (Shout! Factory Power Rangers Legacy Sign-Up!). The limited edition Legacy set will only have 2,000 copies available worldwide.

Details regarding cost of this TV-on-DVD set were not given but it is expected to be in the range of $400 - $500, based on research of similar complete series sets. The announcement, however, has caused some uproar on social media tonight. Fans of the show who shelled out almost $300 for the 7-season box set released last fall through Time Life/StarVista are not too happy with the company's double-dipping strategy. No official response has been given but knowing Shout! Factory's history with releasing products, it's more than likely the company will issue individual sets for seasons 8 through 20.

Power Rangers fans: Sound off about this news? Would you pay whatever the final price will be for this set? Comment below and remember to Stay Tuned for more news from SDCC2013!
